Goldman Sachs tokenized stock (xStock) is a cryptocurrency. It belongs to the tokenized real-world asset class, specifically representing fractional ownership in Goldman Sachs Group Inc. common equity.
This instrument demolishes traditional brokerage barriers. Geographic restrictions, high fees, and minimum account thresholds simply evaporate when equity exposure moves on-chain. Non-U.S. investors who face limited access to American stock markets can hold and transact GSX through decentralized and centralized crypto exchanges just like any ERC-20 or SPL token, while retaining a legal claim to the stock’s economic value.
Goldman Sachs tokenized stock (xStock) operates on the Solana network. Multi-chain deployments mirror the token on Ethereum, Arbitrum One, and BNB Smart Chain, each using identical bytecode and the same backing reserve.
The token is implemented as an SPL asset on Solana and as an ERC-20 standard on EVM-compatible chains. Its architecture enforces a 1:1 peg through off-chain custody of actual Goldman Sachs shares held by a regulated Swiss trustee. This design enables direct composability with automated market makers, lending pools, and structured products across DeFi.
Backed Finance AG, a Swiss financial intermediary operating under the country’s DLT framework, created the xStocks product suite. The Goldman Sachs variant emerged as one of 57 tokenized equities and ETFs the firm rolled out to bridge conventional stock markets with permissionless infrastructure.
The core mission centers on globalizing access to U.S. equity value without sacrificing compliance or legal safeguards. By substituting brokerage accounts with non-custodial wallets, the protocol eliminates intermediation layers that have historically excluded millions from participating in the capital markets.
Each unit of GSX functions as a bearer asset entitling the holder to the price performance and dividends of one Goldman Sachs share, net of custody fees. It moves as a standard programmable token—transferable peer-to-peer, swappable on DEXs, and depositable as collateral in money markets—with no lock-ups or withdrawal constraints.
Arbitragers balance price gaps between GSX’s on-chain value and the NYSE-listed stock through continuous minting and redemption. Liquidity providers deposit the token into decentralized pools to capture swap fees. Borrowers supply GSX to protocols like Aave or Compound forks on supporting chains to obtain stablecoin loans while maintaining exposure.
Goldman Sachs tokenized stock (xStock) has a total supply of 102,069.24 tokens. Currently, 389.37 tokens circulate across the supported blockchain networks. The supply fluctuates in response to creation and redemption requests from authorized participants who deposit or withdraw the underlying equity with the custodian. With a market capitalization of $361,676.00, Goldman Sachs tokenized stock (xStock) ranks #4,077 among all cryptocurrencies.
