Volo Staked SUI (VSUI) is a cryptocurrency. The asset operates as a receipt token issued by the Volo protocol, representing a staked Sui position that remains liquid and transferable.
Volo’s liquid staking mechanism dissolves the immobility of staked capital. When users deposit SUI into the protocol’s smart contracts, they receive VSUI tokens that accrue staking rewards through an appreciating exchange rate, rather than through manual claiming events. This design directly addresses a core friction in proof-of-stake networks—the forced choice between earning yield and participating in lending, borrowing, or trading activities.
Volo Staked SUI operates on the Sui network. The Sui blockchain is a permissionless layer-1 infrastructure built around the Move virtual machine, optimized for parallel transaction execution and sub-second finality. Its object-centric data model allows assets like VSUI to be owned directly by an account, with ownership rules enforced by Move’s bytecode verifier.
The protocol deploys its core contracts as a Move package anchored at the Sui address 0x549e8b69270defbfafd4f94e17ec44cdbdd99820b33bda2278dea3b9a32d3f55::cert::cert. When a user delegates SUI to a validator set through the contract, it mints VSUI; unstaking triggers a symmetrical burn, maintaining a strict one-to-one relationship between SUI principal and VSUI supply. Move’s linear type system prevents double-spending and reentrancy without requiring external audits or multisigs.
Volo originated as an open-source initiative within the Sui developer community. The protocol’s growth aligned with the broader expansion of liquid staking practices outside the Ethereum ecosystem, addressing a structural need for composable staked assets on Sui. No single founding team has been publicly disclosed.
The project aims to dismantle the artificial barrier between staking yield and DeFi composability. By tokenizing staked SUI into a fungible, yield-bearing instrument, Volo allows capital to move fluidly between validators and lending protocols, automated market makers, and collateralized debt positions without the delays of cooldown periods. This unbundling of yield from custody creates a more efficient capital market on Sui.
VSUI does not pay out dividends. Instead, the token’s value relative to SUI increases continuously as validator rewards accumulate inside the liquid staking pool, a mechanism isomorphic to a share in a growth fund. Stakers can verify the current exchange rate on-chain, which determines how much SUI can be redeemed per VSUI, and this rate is recalibrated each epoch based on network inflation and validator commission parameters. There is no separate governance token; VSUI itself functions as a pure utility receipt with no voting rights over the underlying validator selection.
Validators and delegators supply SUI to the Volo contract and receive VSUI, which they can subsequently deposit into money markets like lending pools to earn additional interest on top of staking rewards. Traders utilize VSUI-SUI liquidity pools to capture swap fees while maintaining exposure to the appreciating staked asset. Arbitrageurs exploit minor discrepancies between the oracle-reported exchange rate and the open market price, helping to keep the peg accurate.
Volo Staked SUI has a maximum supply of 10,000,000,000 tokens. Currently, 15,292,746.84 are in circulation. The token’s emission is entirely demand-driven, minted only when SUI is staked and burned upon redemption, without a predetermined inflation schedule or halving cycle. With a market capitalization of $15,144,068.00, Volo Staked SUI ranks #8,374 among all cryptocurrencies.
