ShareToken (SHR) is a cryptocurrency launched in 2018. It markets itself as the world’s first trusted token for sharing services—a single payment method for exchanging shared assets irrespective of category or geography.
The token addresses chronic fragmentation in the sharing economy, where platforms for ride-hailing, accommodation, tool rental, and freelance tasks each demand distinct payment integrations, currencies, and processing fees. SHR collapses that siloed infrastructure into a unified, blockchain-based settlement layer. A homeowner in Lisbon listing a spare room, a scooter rental operator in Bangkok, and a peer-to-peer power-tool lender in Oslo can all denominate transactions in the same asset, bypassing the overhead of traditional payment rails.
ShareToken operates on the Ethereum and BNB Chain networks. Deployed as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum and a BEP-20 token on BNB Chain, the asset inherits the consensus security and smart contract functionality of both chains without maintaining an independent validator set. This dual-chain architecture widens accessibility while avoiding the burden of bootstrapping a dedicated consensus mechanism.
The token contracts leverage the native execution environments—Solidity-compiled bytecode on each chain—and benefit from existing network effects. Despite limited exchange depth, with only three primary trading pairs across three exchanges, SHR achieves exposure through 21 active trading venues, according to recent market data. The smart contracts are publicly verifiable, with the Ethereum instance residing at a predetermined address and the BNB Chain mirror synchronizing supply parameters.
Founder identities remain absent from official project documentation. Incorporated in Malta, ShareToken was unveiled and its contract deployed on March 27, 2018. The accompanying whitepaper articulates a peer-to-peer sharing economy where intermediaries are programmatically replaced by escrow logic and reputation scoring embedded on-chain. Early marketing emphasized cross-platform fungibility, promising a single token for any sharing transaction worldwide.
The overriding mission is to decouple sharing economy payments from fiat corridors and platform-specific stored-value systems. Instead of a property manager juggling multiple payout currencies or a freelancer absorbing foreign exchange losses, SHR envisions a borderless, low-friction payment standard. That design angle positions the token not as a speculative instrument but as an infrastructural grease for a global sharing mesh.
Mechanically, SHR acts as the native unit of account inside the ShareRing booking platform and any third-party service that adopts its protocol. A customer reserving a campervan sends SHR into a smart escrow which auto-releases funds to the owner upon proof of use, while a small protocol fee is burned or redistributed. The token does not govern the network; its role is purely transactional settlement, separating it from governance-focused assets.
Providers stake no token to secure the network—ShareToken is not a consensus-layer asset—but they hold SHR to receive client payments and may choose to retain it for future bookings, effectively becoming liquidity providers in the ecosystem’s closed-loop economy. Consumers, on the other hand, purchase SHR on exchanges to access services without incurring multi-currency conversion penalties. Merchants that integrate the protocol can tap into a pool of global users without onboarding additional payment processors, creating a self-reinforcing usage loop.
ShareToken (SHR) has a maximum supply of 6,740,000,000 tokens. Currently, 5,355,813,023.10 are in circulation. With a market capitalization of $1,902,981.00, ShareToken (SHR) ranks #2,372 among all cryptocurrencies.
