Hamster Kombat (HMSTR) is a cryptocurrency launched in 2024 as a play-to-earn token embedded within a viral Telegram clicker game. It simulates a crypto exchange CEO experience for over 300 million players.
The project injects Web3 protocols into a casual idle interface, bypassing the conventional complexity of wallet onboarding. Players manage a fictional exchange, upgrade mining rigs, and complete tasks—all while earning in-game currency that transitions to an on-chain asset. This design tackles the steep adoption curve that has historically siloed decentralized finance from mainstream internet users.
Hamster Kombat operates on The Open Network (TON) blockchain. The token lives as an on-chain asset settled through Telegram’s integrated wallet infrastructure, removing the need for external bridge contracts.
The HMSTR token is a TON-based contract identified by the prefix EQAJ8uWd7EBq. It does not maintain its own independent blockchain but instead exists as a sub-asset on The Open Network, secured by the same validators that process TON’s native transactions. The contract functions as a standard fungible token with no explicit mention of EVM compatibility or cross-chain bridging mechanisms.
The development team remained anonymous until June 2024, when Russian investigative outlet The Bell named Eduard Gurinovich, Aleksandr Zelenshchikov, Aleksandr Pasechnik, and Nikita Anufriev as the creators. By that point the game had already amassed a massive user base concentrated in Iran, Russia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. HMSTR first appeared on centralized exchanges with a Bybit listing in July 2024, then OKX in September and Binance in December, anchoring its tradable status. Government warnings about pyramid schemes and account theft surfaced in multiple countries, yet the player count reportedly exceeded 300 million.
The project’s declared mission is to onboard one billion Web2 users into Web3 by disguising cryptographic asset interaction as a game. It seeks to normalize token ownership for demographics that have never interacted with a non-custodial wallet. The simulation of exchange CEO duties creates habituation to market dynamics without the friction of traditional onboarding.
HMSTR functions strictly as a play-to-earn reward asset. Players generate the token through screen tapping and task completion within the idle game, then withdraw it to an external TON wallet. Once on-chain, the token can be deposited on exchanges like Bybit, OKX, and Binance for spot or derivatives trading, with no governance, staking, or collateralization mechanism built into the contract.
A player accumulates HMSTR by tapping the hamster and completing daily cipher tasks; during distribution events that balance becomes transferable to a TON-compatible wallet. From there, limit orders can be placed on centralized markets where the token trades against USDT and other pairs. The asset currently lacks in-app utility beyond being the reward counter, with no burn mechanism or fee redistribution model activated.
Hamster Kombat has a maximum supply of 100,000,000,000 HMSTR tokens. Currently, 64,375,000,000 HMSTR are in circulation. With a market capitalization of $10,239,857, Hamster Kombat ranks #1,197 among all cryptocurrencies.
