About Sommelier

Sommelier (SOMM) is a cryptocurrency launched in 2021 that functions as the native token of a non-custodial, cross-chain platform for automatically executing actively-managed DeFi investment strategies.

The system attacks the fragmentation and high expense of on-chain yield generation by letting users deposit into Cellars—smart contract vaults curated by professional Strategy Providers. These providers develop quantitative models or machine learning signals, but rely on Sommelier’s off-chain execution environment to keep their logic shielded while a specialized bridge pushes rebalancing instructions to assets sitting on Ethereum and other chains. Transaction batching and aggregation dramatically undercut the gas costs that would otherwise cripple frequent strategy adjustments.

Sommelier operates on its own blockchain built with the Cosmos SDK, secured by a decentralized validator set that also handles protocol governance. The architecture layers an off-chain computation cluster where strategies can exploit sentiment data or hedging algorithms without public exposure, then ferries instructions across one of the fastest Ethereum bridges, which was engineered from day one to expand toward lower-fee networks like Polygon and Avalanche.

The SOMM token exists as an ERC-20 asset on Ethereum and as an IBC token inside the Cosmos ecosystem, allowing fluid cross-chain transfer through the project’s bridge. That bridge relies on batched settlement logic to compress fees, while all Cellars remain fully non-custodial: capital is deployed directly from user wallets, withdrawable at any moment, and Strategy Providers never acquire custody over the underlying principal.

March 31, 2021, marked the token’s debut, arriving with early backing from venture funds Multicoin Capital and Alameda Research, two firms that anchored institutional attention on the project. Technical milestones concentrated initially on deploying a trust-minimized ETH bridge and proving the viability of off-chain strategy computation. The roadmap soon stretched to include cross-chain compatibility, liberating Cellars from congested Ethereum blockspace and high L1 settlement costs.

The protocol’s horizon extends toward democratizing institutionally managed yield, making advanced, active portfolio techniques accessible to any depositor who retains self-custody. Off-chain modeling flexibility—capable of reading price trends, NFT sentiment, or DEX liquidity curves—couples with on-chain settlement that records final position changes, keeping the adjustment trail publicly verifiable while shrouding the model’s inner logic.

SOMM, as the chain’s native asset, gets staked by validators to participate in consensus and to relay strategy instructions to Cellars. Without a properly bonded validator set, Strategy Providers cannot push execution messages across the bridge, and vaults stagnate, so the token functions as the connective tissue between secret modeling work and actionable DeFi rebalancing.

Validators stake SOMM to secure the network and earn protocol emissions, and token holders can delegate to those validators, sharing in returns while shaping governance votes. Active community members who design Cellars plug into a framework where execution costs are socialized through batching, diffusing the gas burden across all strategy participants on the chain.

Sommelier has a maximum supply of 500,000,000 tokens. Currently, 374,796,738 are in circulation. With a market capitalization of $151,496.00, Sommelier ranks #5,208 among all cryptocurrencies.
