Navio (NAV) is a cryptocurrency that first appeared in 2014. The asset anchors a privacy-enhanced blockchain network engineered for confidential transactions, smart contracts, and anonymous payments.
The protocol confronts the inherent transparency of public ledgers by making every on-chain transaction private by default. Its design merges the blsCT protocol—a fusion of BLS digital signatures and Confidential Transactions—with a novel consensus mechanism called Proof-of-Private-Stake. This architecture eliminates the surveillance vectors that plague conventional blockchains without sacrificing decentralization.
Navio operates on its own blockchain using Proof-of-Private-Stake consensus. Validators produce blocks every 30 seconds, receiving 2 NAV per block as a reward for securing the network while preserving transactional privacy.
The stack integrates Dandelion++ to obfuscate transaction origin, Pedersen Commitments to conceal amounts, and BLS signatures for compact, aggregatable authorization. A BEP-20 token contract on BNB Chain extends the asset into broader DeFi landscapes, though all native privacy properties reside on the mainnet.
Originating as NavCoin, the project traces its roots to a community launch with a genesis block mined on June 2, 2014. No foundational team is publicly credited; the protocol evolves through volunteer contributions from developers, community managers, and marketers. A planned swap mechanism will transition legacy NavCoin tokens to the upgraded Navio standard.
The long-term objective revolves around a permissionless financial environment where privacy is not an opt-in feature but the default state. By embedding zero-knowledge-style confidentiality directly into the consensus layer, Navio targets a substrate for private decentralized banking and untraceable digital cash.
Inside the protocol, NAV functions as the exclusive gas asset for executing smart contracts and private transfers. It also serves as the staking bond that validators lock to participate in block production. Holders can delegate stake to validators, a mechanism that aligns economic incentives with network integrity.
Validators actively stake NAV to produce blocks and capture emission rewards, while users transact via shielded addresses that hide sender, receiver, and value. Developers deploy smart contracts that inherit the chain’s native privacy, enabling confidential payroll disbursements or supply chain settlements without public exposure.
Navio has a total supply of 77,077,429 tokens. Currently, 77,077,429 are in circulation. New issuance occurs at a fixed rate of 2 NAV per block, translating to roughly 2,880 tokens minted daily. With a market capitalization of $2,952,178, Navio ranks #2,018 among all cryptocurrencies.
