Machine eXchange Coin (MXC) is a cryptocurrency launched in 2018. It anchors a decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) designed explicitly for Internet of Things (IoT) data monetization.
The protocol tackles a broken IoT data economy where sensor telemetry remains siloed and value extraction is dominated by centralized cloud providers. MXC’s system fuses a Low Power Wide Access Network (LPWAN) with the Machine eXchange Protocol (MXProtocol) to create an open, permissionless marketplace. Data producers and consumers meet directly, pricing signals align through the token, and network coverage proliferates through economic incentive rather than carrier subsidy.
The token operates on the Arbitrum One network, an Ethereum layer-2 rollup. Ethereum’s security backstops every transaction, yet gas costs remain a fraction of mainnet equivalents. No independent validator set governs the token’s ledger; instead, it relies on Arbitrum’s fraud-proof architecture and finality to settle value transfers and data purchase contracts.
As an ERC-20 compatible asset, MXC integrates directly with Ethereum’s DeFi liquidity pools and smart contract tooling. The MXProtocol encodes a Quality of Service (QoS) framework into its contract logic, filtering relayed data by signal strength and latency to adjust gateway rewards algorithmically. Off-chain routines tied to data integrity verification reference the Ethash hashing algorithm, though on-chain execution stays agnostic to the underlying consensus.
The MXC Foundation, rooted in Germany, orchestrated the network’s debut in August 2018 alongside the inaugural distribution of tokens. Early rollout leaned heavily on physical hardware: the MatchBox LPWAN Gateway and compatible Cisco gateways allowed participants to immediately convert radio coverage into token earnings. No venture capital allocation or private sale defined its launch—adoption grew organically through community-built infrastructure.
At its core, the project pursues the total commoditization of machine-generated data. By dismantling the walled gardens of telecom-driven IoT networks, MXC aims to make low-power wide-area connectivity universally accessible and economically self-sustaining. Sensors in agriculture, logistics, and smart cities become liquidity sources, their data streams priced and traded in real time.
Mechanically, the token functions as the sole settlement unit for every network interaction. Gateways prove coverage by transmitting uplinks and downlinks; the protocol calculates emissions based on verified data packets and issues MXC directly to operator wallets. Data buyers must hold and spend tokens to unlock aggregated feeds from the marketplace, while smart contracts enforce settlement finality without a central clearinghouse.
A gateway operator deploying a LoRaWAN-compatible antenna in an underserved region earns MXC proportionally to the packets successfully routed. An industrial analytics firm purchases a stream of vibration and temperature data from a compressor fleet, paying in MXC through a smart contract order book. Both sides exit without a centralized broker extracting rent.
MXC has a maximum supply of 320,918,019,677 tokens. Currently, 3,211,089,763.46 are in circulation. Supply emission curves are not publicly detailed, though the vast ceiling between circulating and maximum figures implies a gradual, long-duration release schedule. With a market capitalization of $1,569,337, Machine eXchange Coin ranks #2,542 among all cryptocurrencies.
