MoneyByte (MON) is a cryptocurrency launched in 2019. It functions as a Layer-1 smart contract platform that integrates a masternode-driven proof-of-stake architecture.
The protocol anchors its utility in digital money and a suite of investment instruments, aiming to simplify financial exposure for a broad range of investors. Rather than serving as a generalized compute layer, MoneyByte concentrates on delivering easy-to-use investment tools directly on-chain, addressing the friction between casual users and complex decentralized finance products. Its design allows market participants to engage with investment opportunities without intermediary layers.
MoneyByte operates on its own blockchain using proof-of-stake. The network’s heartbeat is regulated by a one-minute block interval, with masternodes taking the lead in finalizing transactions.
The infrastructure harnesses the NeoScrypt hashing algorithm, a choice that lends memory-hardness to the system’s cryptographic functions. Block generation ticks at precisely 60 seconds, a tempo that balances throughput with finality. The masternode requirement introduces an economic threshold for participation, encouraging long-term alignment among validators.
The project surfaced in the Netherlands, with mainnet operations commencing on January 10, 2019. Details about the founding team remain absent from public records, leaving the initiative’s origin story anchored to its codebase and white paper. Early community building occurred across Telegram and Twitter, as the protocol’s exchange listings gradually expanded to 77 active markets.
The central ambition of MoneyByte is to recast cryptocurrency as an accessible vehicle for investment rather than pure speculation. By embedding investment tools into a sovereign blockchain, the protocol seeks to move beyond static store-of-value narratives and toward an actively managed, tokenized financial ecosystem.
Within this system, MON acts as the native fuel required for executing smart contract calls and transferring value across the ledger. Validators are compelled to stake a predetermined amount of MON to activate a masternode, a mechanism that ties network security directly to token scarcity. Block rewards flow to these stakers, creating a closed-loop incentive structure.
Validators stake MON to spin up masternodes, thereby securing the network and receiving emissions as a direct economic incentive. Developers deploying investment-oriented smart contracts consume MON for gas, while end-users rely on the token to participate in the protocol’s financial products.
MoneyByte has a maximum supply of 32,200,000 tokens. Currently, 9,323,927.6 MON are in circulation. With a market capitalization of $522,237, MoneyByte ranks #3,649 among all cryptocurrencies.
