Gou (GOU) is a cryptocurrency launched in 2024. It exists as a dog-themed ERC-20 meme token anchored in the Ethereum ecosystem, channeling the Chinese character for “dog” into a purely cultural digital asset.
The protocol offers no lending market, no yield optimizer, no liquidity automation layer. It is a meme coin engineered for community-driven expression. Where serious DeFi infrastructure slashes slippage or orchestrates cross-chain settlement, Gou simply furnishes a tokenized mascot around which internet subcultures coalesce. It absorbs the speculative energy of dog-themed assets and repackages that energy as a collective art project, sidestepping any pretense of technical utility.
The token operates on the Ethereum network. Every transfer, approval, and allowance executes via the mainnet’s execution layer, settling within the global EVM state.
As an ERC-20 contract, Gou inherits Ethereum’s account structure and composability. The token’s bytecode lives at a publicly verifiable address, open to inspection on Etherscan, Ethplorer, and the Arkham Intelligence explorer. It does not maintain an independent mempool or validator set—security derives entirely from Ethereum’s proof-of-stake consensus, block proposer randomization, and finality gadget. Token interactions conform to the standard six-method interface: balanceOf, transfer, transferFrom, approve, allowance, and the optional metadata fields name, symbol, and decimals. Anyone can spin up a Uniswap pool, list a trading pair, or integrate the asset into a wallet by referencing the canonical contract identifier.
The project surfaced on August 12, 2024, initiated by an undisclosed team capitalizing on the durable meme-coin mania that dog tokens have commanded since the last cycle. No individual founder names appear in the project’s canonical channels. Within its earliest weeks, Gou had already propagated across 21 active markets, though liquidity depth across those pairs remained vanishingly thin, a pattern familiar to nascent community tokens born on decentralized exchanges. The smart contract was deployed directly to Ethereum mainnet, with no presale event, layer-2 bridge, or wrapped representation ever advertised in official documentation.
Gou’s long-term ambition is not infrastructural. It seeks to sustain a participatory digital subculture where speculative trading and artistic production collapse into a single behavioral loop. The project frames itself as a canvas for internet-native creativity, inviting holders to remix, reinterpret, and propagate the dog motif without the overhead of a roadmap, a DAO treasury, or a migration deadline.
Within the protocol, GOU functions strictly as a transferable unit of account. There is no staking module, no governance module, no fee-sharing mechanism, and no burn-and-mint rebasing engine. Its only on-chain action is the permissionless movement of balances between externally owned accounts and smart contracts. Every swap executed against a liquidity pool constitutes a price discovery event determined by the bonding curve of the respective automated market maker, not by any internal protocol logic.
A holder can supply GOU alongside ETH to a Uniswap V2 or V3 pool to earn swap fees, subject to impermanent loss. Alternatively, the asset can be withdrawn to a self-custodial wallet and held idle. In the absence of native protocol incentives, all yield or utility must be constructed externally—through NFT integrations, social tipping bots, or community-curated raffles. On-chain activity remains confined to the basic ERC-20 lifecycle: mint (fully exercised at genesis), transfer, approve, and burn if triggered externally.
Gou has a maximum supply of 1,000,000,000 tokens. Currently, 1,000,000,000 are in circulation. With a market capitalization of $59,703, Gou ranks #6,747 among all cryptocurrencies.
