Coreum (COREUM) is a cryptocurrency launched in 2021. A fast Layer-1 blockchain engineered as core infrastructure for future decentralized applications and DeFi.
The network positions itself as an enterprise-grade execution layer, tackling the throughput limitations that stymie complex financial smart contracts. Its architecture targets institutional DeFi primitives—lending, automated market making, and synthetic asset issuance—without sacrificing the settlement finality required by regulated entities. Latency and deterministic resource pricing sit at the center of that design.
Coreum operates on the XRP Ledger network. This integration marries the token to XRPL’s proven consensus and settlement rails, anchoring it within an ecosystem known for low-cost, high-speed value transfer. That design choice sidesteps the gas-volatility pitfalls common to standalone layer-1s while maintaining a distinct namespace for smart contract execution.
The asset exists as a standard fungible token on XRPL, identifiable by its issuer address, and extends its reach via an Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) representation on the Osmosis chain. This dual-presence model enables permissionless transfers between the XRP Ledger and the Cosmos ecosystem, directly tapping into Osmosis’s liquidity pools and decentralized exchange infrastructure.
The project materialized in late 2021, with its token generation event settling on December 19 of that year. No single public figure dominated the rollout; rather, a distributed collective of developers steered the initial codebase and documentation. Early adoption concentrated within the XRP community, attracting builders already familiar with XRPL’s payment-centric design ethos.
Beyond mere transaction settlement, Coreum envisions a programmable middleware layer that abstracts away the complexities of cross-chain orchestration. Its long-term objective is to serve as the connective tissue between traditional financial institutions and decentralized protocols, delivering deterministic execution for tokenized real-world assets.
COREUM tokens function as the native gas unit for smart contract interactions on the network. Every deployment, state mutation, or cross-chain message triggers a fee payable exclusively in COREUM, directly coupling network utilization to token demand.
Developers use COREUM to deploy and execute contract code, while traders route it through 19 active markets to enter DeFi positions or bridge value between XRP Ledger and Osmosis. The token’s liquidity across centralized and decentralized venues grants it a concrete, measurable role in cross-ecosystem arbitrage and settlement.
Coreum has a total supply of 649,694,844.34 tokens. Currently, 384,792,048 are in circulation. With a market capitalization of $5,953,590.94, Coreum ranks #1,163 among all cryptocurrencies.
