Charli3 (C3) is a cryptocurrency launched in 2021. It functions as the first decentralized oracle natively constructed on the Cardano blockchain.
The protocol solves a concrete market friction. Cardano-based decentralized applications previously lacked a low-cost, trust-minimized mechanism to ingest off-chain data. Bridging external oracles from Ethereum or other networks introduces additional latency, security dependencies, and fee overhead. Native deployment sidesteps these compromises entirely, giving builders a direct pipeline to real-world information feeds.
Charli3 operates on the Cardano network. The token’s logic is embedded directly into Cardano’s extended UTXO ledger, meaning it does not rely on a separate virtual machine or sidechain. Settlement occurs on the main chain with the same proof-of-stake security that underpins the entire ecosystem.
The asset’s on-chain identifier is the policy ID 8e51398904a5d3fc129fbf4f1589701de23c7824d5c90fdb9490e15a434841524c4933, marking it as a type of Cardano native token distinct from wrapped ERC-20 or BEP-20 assets. This structure eschews the familiar account-based smart contract logic of Ethereum, operating instead within Cardano’s extended unspent transaction output paradigm, which parallelizes transaction validation and reduces state bloat. It allows direct integration with any Cardano wallet and decentralized exchange that supports the chain’s native multi-asset ledger, without additional bridge infrastructure.
A whitepaper published in 2021 detailed the protocol’s architecture. Token distribution commenced on April 26 of that year, placing Charli3 among the earliest native oracle initiatives on Cardano. The launch preceded a broad expansion of DeFi applications on the chain, giving Charli3 a first-mover advantage in the oracle niche without requiring cross-chain dependencies.
The project’s long-term ambition centers on becoming the default data middleware layer for the Cardano ecosystem. By establishing a permissionless marketplace for oracle services, it intends to enable lending protocols, prediction markets, and decentralized insurance products to tap into verifiable external data without relying on centralized feed operators. The goal is to lower the barrier for data onboarding so significantly that any Cardano project—from synthetic asset platforms to NFT-collateralized lending—can integrate decentralized price oracles without bespoke maintenance.
Within this architecture, the C3 token functions as a work asset. Data providers commit C3 as collateral to secure their position in the network, forfeitable if they transmit inaccurate information. Consumers of oracle data pay fees in C3, which are then distributed to the validators who fulfill the queries successfully. Validators who faithfully report data are rewarded from fee pools, linking token velocity directly to the reliability and breadth of the oracle’s data catalog.
A validator must acquire and lock C3 to participate in the oracle network, earning a pro-rata share of fee revenue in return for accurate data delivery. Developers launching a Cardano DApp that requires off-chain price feeds, for instance, purchase C3 on the open market to pay for those recurring data streams. Market makers and arbitrageurs might also hold C3 as a hedge against rising data demand across the Cardano DeFi landscape, creating a circular flow where token demand scales with ecosystem adoption.
Charli3 has a total supply of 100,000,000 tokens. Currently, 35,674,382.93 C3 are in circulation. The token’s market capitalization stands at $300,141. It ranks #4,307 among all cryptocurrencies.
