ZetaChain (ZETA) is a cryptocurrency launched in 2021 that functions as a universal Layer 1 blockchain and smart contract platform. Its design focuses on unifying fragmented ecosystems across Web3 and artificial intelligence.
The protocol solves the persistent friction of blockchain fragmentation by enabling omnichain smart contracts that execute across Ethereum, Bitcoin, BNB Chain, and others from a single deployment. Developers avoid assembling complex multichain backends, while an embedded AI interoperability layer routes requests across disparate large language models without provider lock-in. A private memory layer encrypts user context, keeping it portable and permissioned across applications.
ZetaChain operates on the Ethereum network. Its Omnichain Smart Contract layer permits a single deployment to manage state across Ethereum, BNB Chain, and Bitcoin directly. This architecture eliminates the need for separate bridge contracts for each supported ecosystem, instead allowing contracts to observe and update state on foreign ledgers natively.
The native token implements ERC-20 and BEP-20 standards, ensuring composability within Ethereum and BSC DeFi landscapes. An AI Portal handles routing and execution across multiple model providers, while the Private Memory Layer employs encryption to maintain user context inaccessible to the platform itself. These components enable privacy-first applications with persistent, portable memory.
ZetaChain entered the market in 2021 with an emphasis on universal applications that could span heterogeneous blockchains. The project’s early development prioritized chain abstraction long before widespread industry adoption. Its scope later broadened to include AI model orchestration, creating a unified interface for both ledger and inference networks.
The overarching purpose is to collapse the boundary between blockchain ecosystems and AI services into a single, programmable surface. Rather than accept the status quo of isolated chains and proprietary AI silos, ZetaChain pursues a generalized interoperability fabric where applications inherit cross-domain capabilities by default. Developers ship a singular codebase that reaches users on any network and any AI model, dissolving the legacy toll of multi-stack integration. This vision extends to AI agents that retain encrypted memory across sessions, enabling persistent yet privacy-respecting digital assistants.
ZETA is the unit of account for transaction fees within the ZetaChain execution environment. Smart contract deployments that span multiple chains settle gas costs in ZETA, and routing requests through the AI Portal incurs a per-call fee payable in the token. Settlement of cross-chain state updates also relies on the asset to coordinate finality across participants. Because the network abstracts away chain-specific execution tokens, ZETA serves as the sole settlement medium for all cross-network orchestration.
Developers fund omnichain contract executions with ZETA to atomically update storage on Bitcoin and EVM chains. AI application builders pay per inference through the Portal, using the token to abstract billing across model providers. Users of privacy-preserving AI agents hold ZETA to maintain encrypted context sessions that travel fluidly between different frontends. Asset managers bridging positions across multiple chains settle each hop’s network cost with a single ZETA balance, sidestepping the friction of maintaining separate native gas reserves on every destination chain.
ZetaChain has a maximum supply of 2,100,000,000 tokens. Currently, 1,363,906,250 are in circulation. With a market capitalization of $75,679,329, ZetaChain ranks #354 among all cryptocurrencies.
