Verus (VRSC) is a cryptocurrency launched in 2018. A privacy-first Layer-1 blockchain with smart contracts.
Sapling zero-knowledge proofs are native, shielding transaction graphs from outside observers. The consensus architecture combines proof-of-work and proof-of-stake to strip away the nothing-at-stake vulnerability. What emerges is a chain provably resistant to double-spending. No initial coin offering or premine ever diluted the supply.
Verus operates on its own blockchain using proof of power. This exact 50/50 blend of proof-of-work and proof-of-stake neutralizes vector weaknesses that pure stake-based systems cannot escape. The network is mathematically immune to 51% hash attacks.
Block time clocks in at exactly one minute. VerusHash, a hash function designed to be quantum-secure, calibrates difficulty so that CPUs and GPUs mine with roughly equivalent efficiency. ASIC dominance is structurally blocked, and mobile mining remains viable. Interchain contracts and native MEV protection reinforce the execution layer.
The project surfaced in 2018 as a community-led effort. No central founding team ever claimed authorship. The launch was zero-premine and fully community-distributed, documented in the Verus Vision whitepaper. Early coins entered circulation exclusively through mining.
The roadmap aims far beyond transactional privacy. Decentralized automatic provisioning of public blockchains as a service is the long-term design space. Elections and polls become on-chain applications running on sovereign ledgers spun up via the protocol’s consensus technology. That vision positions Verus as infrastructure for censorship-resistant governance.
Inside the protocol, VRSC pays transaction fees. Validators must stake the token to participate in the proof-of-stake mechanism, while miners expend computational work to earn newly minted coins. The dual role ties asset utility directly to consensus security.
Validators lock VRSC to propose blocks; in return they earn protocol emissions. Senders spend it to access shielded transfers and tap interchain contract logic. The token also acts as a base trading pair in third-party automated market maker pools.
Verus has a maximum supply of 83,540,184 tokens. Currently, 80,230,089.32 are in circulation. With a market capitalization of $62,169,220, Verus ranks #419 among all cryptocurrencies.
