io.net (IO) is a cryptocurrency launched in 2024 that anchors a decentralized compute marketplace for machine learning workloads and IoT device coordination. The token serves as the native asset inside a DePIN protocol that channels idle GPUs into a globally accessible cluster.
Engineers connect to the network to lease processing power at a small fraction of the cost commanded by centralized hyperscalers. On the supply side, data centers, crypto miners, and solo hardware operators monetize underutilized silicon. The protocol collapses the pricing wedge between spot cloud compute and severely discounted distributed capacity, directly threatening the economics of legacy cloud vendors.
io.net operates on the Solana network. The compute mesh is orchestrated through Solana’s high-throughput Layer-1, which finalizes payments, staking events, and resource commitments without reliance on a separate consensus mechanism.
The IO token is issued as an SPL asset, making it composable across Solana’s DeFi primitives. On-chain program logic governs supplier onboarding, reputation scoring, and slashing enforcement, while a job-matching engine allocates inference and training tasks to the most cost-efficient node clusters.
The project surfaced in June 2024, gaining immediate visibility through Binance’s Launchpool distribution conduit. Venture firms including Multicoin Capital, Delphi Ventures, Animoca Brands, and OKX Ventures anchored early backing, signaling institutional conviction in the DePIN thesis.
Its core mission is to dismantle centralised compute monopolies by commoditising dormant silicon. By routing GPU capacity into a permissionless liquid pool, io.net enables startups and independent researchers to run large model training cycles without negotiating with AWS or Azure. A secondary IoT data-exchange layer extends this logic to machine-to-machine communication, preserving device-level data sovereignty.
IO operates as the sole settlement currency for renting cluster hours. Compute suppliers lock a performance bond denominated in IO before onboarding their hardware, while engineers draw against that stake when launching jobs. Token-weighted governance lets holders vote on parameter choices such as price floors, slashing severity, and emission schedules.
Compute providers accumulate IO to stake and earn fees plus inflation rewards proportional to their node uptime and throughput. Machine learning teams purchase IO on secondary markets to buy direct access to distributed GPU clusters, slashing inference costs by orders of magnitude. IoT device operators can also settle data-stream payments in IO, integrating the token into sensor networks.
io.net has a maximum supply of 800,000,000 tokens. Currently, 317,483,015.50 IO tokens are in circulation. With a market capitalization of $39,936,578, io.net ranks #555 among all cryptocurrencies.
