Beta Finance (BETA) is a cryptocurrency launched in 2021, operating as a fully permissionless money market protocol. It enables borrowing, lending, and short selling across a vast spectrum of crypto assets. No centralized gatekeeping exists.
The protocol solves a stubborn DeFi inefficiency: the absence of lending markets for lesser-known or yield-farmed tokens. Lenders deposit any asset into isolated money markets and earn risk-free yield—sometimes exceeding 1,000%—derived from borrower interest and short sale premiums. Borrowers, meanwhile, collateralize with ETH or stablecoins to access those assets without unwinding existing positions. Integrated 1-Click short selling lets traders open bearish bets instantly, while liquidators earn premium bounties for monitoring under-collateralized loans.
Beta Finance operates on the Ethereum network, with fully functional instances on BNB Chain and Avalanche. This multi-chain architecture broadens the spectrum of assets users can deposit or short. No separate consensus mechanism governs the token; it inherits the security of each host chain.
The token adheres to the ERC-20 standard on Ethereum, BEP-20 on BNB Chain, and a compatible standard on Avalanche. Its smart contracts facilitate isolated money market creation, where each asset pair remains segregated to contain risk. The 1-Click Short mechanism bundles multiple transactions into a single user action, significantly reducing complexity.
The protocol debuted on October 8, 2021, via the Binance Launchpad, an event that drew immediate liquidity and attention. Early backers included Multicoin Capital, DeFiance Capital, Delphi Ventures, Sequoia Capital, ParaFi Capital, and Spartan Group. No founding individuals are publicly credited; the project emerged from a collective of DeFi engineers and market specialists.
The mission centers on dismantling the barriers that restrict lending and shorting to only top-tier assets. By enabling anyone to list any asset, Beta Finance strives to unlock trapped liquidity in DeFi’s long tail. This radically permissionless design fosters a more inclusive, efficient capital allocation layer.
BETA tokens serve as the functional gateway to the protocol. Without them, users cannot initiate lending pools, execute short positions, or claim liquidation bounties. The token acts as a utility layer that binds participation rights directly to the protocol’s operations.
Lenders hold BETA to deposit into money markets; borrowers use it to unlock collateralized loans. Traders need the token to execute short sales, while liquidators depend on it to capture under-collateralized position bounties.
Beta Finance has a maximum supply of 1,000,000,000 tokens. Currently, 1,000,000,000 are in circulation. With a market capitalization of $8,076,390, Beta Finance ranks #1,341 among all cryptocurrencies.
